System Beep Codes

The Inspiron 1440 can emit a series of beeps during start-up if the display cannot show errors or problems. These series of beeps, called beep codes, identify various problems.
  1. 2 means 2-2-2-2... That is 2 beeps & 2 beeps & 2 beeps...: Endless looping until user presses the power button to shut down the system.
  2. The delay between each beep is 300ms. The delay between each set of beeps is 3 sec, The beep sound last 300ms.
  3. After each beep and each set of beeps, the BIOS will detect if the user presses power button, if so, the BIOS will jump out from looping and execute the normal shutdown process.

2 System Board System Board components: eg. Gate A20/Super I/O/Keyboard Controller test failure, USB subsystem
3 Memory No Memory/RAM detected
4 Memory Memory Config/Size error/(Read/Write error)
5 Expansion Device Expansion Bus initialization failure
6 Expansion Device Video BIOS test failure
7 Reserve for Future Not in use currently.
