Windows Vista

After a clean installation of the Microsoft® Windows Vista™ operating system, you must install the following drivers / software packages on the Studio™ 1735 / 1737 system:

A WARNING indicates either potential damage to hardware or loss of data and tells you how to avoid the problem. WARNING:

You must install the Dell Notebook System Software first followed by the system chipset. Reboot the system between installations.

Also, before installing the modem driver, you must install the audio driver because the modem resides on the High Definition Audio Bus.

A NOTE indicates important information that helps you make better use of your computer. NOTE:
Use this page as a reference for what the drivers should look like in Device Manager when installed.

Dell Notebook System Software


Install the Notebook System Software update from support.dell.com or by inserting the Dell ResourceCD. If you are installing from the CD, choose Windows Vista>System Utilities>Dell Notebook System Software.

Intel Mobile Chipset


Check if the chipset driver is installed by looking at Device Manager (shown below). Install the Intel Chipset Update from support.dell.com or by inserting the Dell ResourceCD. If you are installing from the CD, choose Windows Vista>Chipset Drivers>Intel Mobile Chipset.

Mobile Intel GMA X3100 Video Controller


Check if the video chipset driver is installed by looking at Device Manager. Prior to installing the driver, Device Manager registers a generic Video Controller entry. Installing the driver changes the entry, as shown below.

Install the Intel video driver from support.dell.com or by inserting the Dell ResourceCD. If you are installing from the CD, choose Windows Vista>Video Drivers>Mobile Intel GMA X3100 Graphics Controller.

Ricoh® Media Card Reader Driver


Check if the media card reader driver is installed by looking at Device Manager (shown below). Install the media card reader driver from support.dell.com or by inserting the Dell ResourceCD. If you are installing from the CD, choose Windows Vista>Drivers >Chipset Drivers> Ricoh® Media Card Reader Driver.

Intel Flash Cache Logic Chip Driver


Check if the Intel Flash Cache Logic Chip driver is installed by looking at Device Manager (shown below). Install the driver from support.dell.com or by inserting the Dell ResourceCD. If you are installing from the CD, choose Windows Vista>Drivers >Storage Drivers> Intel Flash Cache Logic Chip.

Broadcom® 440X 10/100 Integrated Network Controller


Check if the network controller is installed by looking at Device Manager. Prior to installing the driver, Device Manager registers a Broadcom 440X 10/100 Integrated Network device entry.

Install the Broadcom network driver from support.dell.com or by inserting the Dell ResourceCD. If you are installing from the CD, choose Windows Vista>Network Drivers>Broadcom 440X 10/100 Integrated Network controller.

Wireless Driver


Check if the wireless driver is installed by looking at Device Manager. Prior to installing the driver, Device Manager registers a generic Network Controller device entry. Installing the driver changes the entry, as shown below.

Install the wireless driver from support.dell.com or by inserting the Dell ResourceCD. If you are installing from the CD, choose Windows Vista>Network Drivers>Dell Wireless 1505 Mini-Card Driver or the Intel 4965 Mini-Card Wireless Driver.

IDT Audio Driver


Check if the audio driver is installed by looking at Device Manager. Prior to installing the driver, Device Manager registers a generic PCI Device entry. Installing the driver changes the entry, as shown below.

Install the IDT audio driver from support.dell.com or by inserting the Dell ResourceCD. If you are installing from the CD, choose Windows Vista>Audio Drivers>IDT STAC 9205.

Dell Touch Pad


Check if the touch pad driver is installed by looking at Device Manager. Prior to installing the driver, Device Manager registers a generic PS/2 device entry. Installing the driver changes the entry, as shown below.

Install the Dell touch pad driver from support.dell.com or by inserting the Dell ResourceCD. If you are installing from the CD, choose Windows Vista>Input Drivers>Dell Touch Pad.

Bluetooth Driver and Stack


The Dell Wireless 360 Bluetooth module works as a basic Bluetooth device on this system without any additional software. However, to take advantage of the full features of the card, install the Bluetooth driver and stack. It updates all the devices and drivers that interface with the Dell 360 Bluetooth card and also provides a new software stack to improve the card's communications capabilities.

This driver installation may take some time, even up to 5 minutes or more if a firmware upgrade takes place. Install the Bluetooth driver from support.dell.com or by inserting the Dell ResourceCD. If you are installing from the CD, choose Windows Vista>Communications Applications>Dell 360 Bluetooth Module.
